Support Jerry Stewart for House District 120, Michael Bridgewater
Savannah Morning News; May 30, 2012

A new district for the SC House of Representatives has been created by the recent census. If you live in district 120, it is essential for you to acquaint yourself with the candidates for this new voice in the legislature. No Democratic candidate has come forward, so there is no Democratic primary. However three Republican candidates are competing in the June 12 Primary. There is still time for someone to declare as an independent candidate, but it is likely that the winner June 12 will be your representative.

One of the Candidates is Jerry Stewart. I have been to several debates between Jerry and the other two candidates and have made an effort to know Jerry personally. He has lived in the Lowcountry for more than nine years, and is currently on the Beaufort County Council. He has served on many governmental committees including Public Safety, Legislative Affairs and Economic Development.  Read more.

We support Jerry Stewart in his race for new District 120, Don and Terri Cammerata
Savannah Morning News; May 23, 2012

According to the recent census, South Carolina shows continued population growth in the Lowcountry. As a result, a newly created voting district was formed: SC-120. This district includes sections of Beaufort and Jasper Counties containing about 14,000 residents.

Jerry Stewart is running to be the first state representative for this new district. We urge those qualified voters to support his election based on his public service, leadership, character, integrity, knowledge, and experience. His credentials include — but are not limited to — current member of Beaufort County Council, former college professor and CEO of a technology-oriented company.  Read more.

Jerry Stewart Files for S.C. House District 120

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 20, 2012

“I’m excited to be a candidate for the State House District 120. This new district means that Beaufort and Jasper Counties will have an additional voice in Columbia. That voice should be someone who understands first-hand the needs of the entire district and someone who has demonstrated a commitment to working effectively across county lines. I want to be that voice.” -Jerry Stewart, Candidate

Beaufort and Jasper Counties have significant areas of common interest. As Chair of the Beaufort County’s Governmental Committee, Jerry Stewart understands the issues and appreciates the excellent relationship that exists between these two counties in such areas as public safety (like the Fire Departments and EMS), legislative affairs, and economic growth. Jerry has worked hard to build bridges in these areas.

Economic development is critical to both counties, and Jerry Stewart has long been committed to a regional, cross-county approach. He played a key role in the Lowcountry Economic Alliance and serves on the Lowcountry Economic NetworkBoard. These organizations helped bring companies like BeGreen and Daniels Defenseto the area and they continue to support the Riverport project and the Jasper Ocean Terminal.

Jerry Stewart said, “This campaign is about who can best represent all residents of District 120, and who will work most effectively with other members of our legislative delegation to promote tax reform and governmental reform in Columbia. We need to lower taxes …, for residents and businesses alike. That means streamlining state government and overhauling the state tax code. We need to let counties keep more of their tax dollars and, with a strong commitment to Home Rule, we need to let the counties determine how to use those tax dollars.”

“That’s a tall order, and I welcome the challenge. Those who know me understand that no one will work harder to understand the issues and promote the needed change, “ Stewart added.
