A new district for the SC House of Representatives has been created by the recent census. If you live in district 120, it is essential for you to acquaint yourself with the candidates for this new voice in the legislature. No Democratic candidate has come forward, so there is no Democratic primary. However three Republican candidates are competing in the June 12 Primary. Beaufort County Councilman Jerry Stewart has joined what looks like a three-way Republican race for S.C. House District 120. “This new district means that Beaufort and Jasper counties will have an additional voice in Columbia,” Stewart said in a statement after filing Monday.
“Beaufort and Jasper counties have significant areas of common interest. As chair of the Beaufort County Governmental Committee, I have come to understand the issues and to appreciate the excellent relationship which exists between our two counties in such areas as public safety (like the fire departments and EMS), legislative affairs and economic growth. In the 2012 budget, we were able to trim expenses while still preserving essential services, and without incurring significant tax increases.
